Put simply, we love music and we want to help you get the most from your music making.

That’s why our two core services (Location Recording and Mastering) provide professional results at truly affordable rates. And we believe not just in good old-fashioned customer service but also the important responsibilities which go with business, to respect the environment as well as each other. At Tenth Egg our striving to be the best at what we do goes hand in hand with our attempts to achieve this in as sustainable a manner as possible.

Music is a very personal thing so before you use one of our services you’d probably like to know a bit more about who we are, what we’re about and the way we do it.

frequently asked questions
Tenth Egg? What’s with the name?
According to old English folklore the tenth egg in a batch will always be the largest and bring good luck. We like to think of ourselves as that big lucky egg amongst the rest.

Tips and tricks from our engineers to help you with your music making
We’re not perfect, but we are trying to minimise the impact of what we do on the environment. The long-term vision is for a truly sustainable business using micro-generation to power the studio and an electric or future-fuel vehicle for use on location. Though this may be a little way off we are constantly looking for new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Energy : In addition to reducing consumption as far as possible we’ve also switched our electricity supplier to Ecotricity, the world’s first green electricity company.
Offsetting : Offsetting can’t be the solution to the environmental challenge, but we think it’s important to support investment in sustainability projects, so what we can’t save we offset.
Vehicles : Our biggest sin and where we’d like to make significant changes in the near future. However, we do currently use modern cars and vans and the size of the vehicle used on location is tailored to the scale of the project.
CD cases : We use clam-shell snap cases which use minimal plastic and, unlike their slim-line and jewel  case counterparts, don’t break in the post and can be used again and again - card alternatives coming soon!
Jiffy bags : At present we still send a lot of stuff in the post so we use only recycled / recyclable jiffy bags
Paper : All our paper is recycled or from FSC approved sustainable sources
Ink : Refill rather than landfill, think before you print and vegetable ink for mail-outs
Compact Discs : If you send us anything on disc and don’t need it back, the data is stripped off and the disc sent off for recycling, though some do become drinks coasters
Composting : Because we often eat, (sleep) and drink at the studio we’ve got a wormery to process all that organic waste

We’ve still got some changes in the pipeline and we’re also open to suggestions, so if there’s something you think we’ve missed then we’d love to hear from you.

In tune with the Environment
Our reason for being . . .
Where are you based?
In Kingston-Upon-Thames in Greater London, but as both Location and Mastering are remote services, you can take advantage of them wherever you’re based.
Do you offer any audio services other than Location Recording and Mastering?
Yes, the following services are also available on request: Mixing, Audio Restoration, Editing, Podcast Production, 5.1 Surround encoding and up-mixing, Encoding for web, Remixing and many more . . . just ask
We want your experience working with us to be not just hassle-free, but enjoyable and believe in:

Open, clear, jargon-free communication : Not everyone knows their split-stereo SDII file from their interleaved .wav and so we keep things simple. We can talk you through any technical processes in plain English and give you advice about which options are best for your particular project.
Keeping you informed : You can keep up to date with the progress of your projects online, but we’ll also be in touch by email, on the phone and are always ready to answer any questions you might have.
A flexible approach : We try to provide options to suit every project, but we’ll also go that extra mile to work around your needs, so if there’s something different or extra we can do for you, just ask.
Transparent pricing : We keep our pricing simple with no hidden extras. So for mastering we charge per track rather than per hour so you know exactly what you’ll be paying.
Customer satisfaction : If you’re not happy, we’re not happy : ( and we’ll do our best to sort it out

There are lots of plans to make Tenth Egg even better, but we hope that we’ve already achieved our aim of providing quality services which you can trust. Judging by the feedback, we must be doing something right, but if you think there’s something we could do better, please tell us

In tune with You
